This chair design is old. Some say it goes for the the mid 1700’s with Mountain Men roaming the united states. Some refer to it a Viking chair and claim it is a Medieval design. It is usually known as a plank chair. For certain it put their hands up in Boy Scout camps in america during the early twentieth century. I’d have guessed this kind of chair was hand carved in Mexico, but it came from a property set with Danish and Mid Century Modern furniture, so it may be of Scandinavian origin. No matter the reason, it is different most “Viking” chairs in this the design is much more elaborate (square cutout pattern), sturdy (braced seat), and detailed (hand carved bows in seat). Of course, because of the striking look and big scale, it commands any room. And it’s extremely comfortable, far more so than many upholstered chairs!
